I attended the Game Places International 2008 yesterday, in between class. I think I'm lucky to be living practically beside the Frankfurt Messe (where all the conferences are held).
The exhibit wasn't has big as Euromold 2007 and I was surprised at how small it actually was. In building 4, to the right were only 6 exhibits that showcased their company, products and services. I think Games Academy was there, Cryteck, there was Interxion (pronounced interaction) and Atari.
Weird, but Atari had like 8 Xbox consoles lined up all ready to be tested and played on and there was only like one person that sauntered over while 3-4 Atari peeps were sitting around the couch.
The hallway portion of building 4 contained 2 conference rooms with seminars going on. Thank goodness they were in English. I don't think I could've stood for another tech conference conducted in German. I love talking and meeting people and picking their brains and if I cannot communicate to them in English them I'm at a lost.
I only stayed for 2 hours. I would've liked to have made it for the beginning of one of the seminars. It seemed interesting. It was a panel discussion on virtual world platforms and had reps from USA, U.K. and Germany talking about their company's strategies and approaches to gaming for the future.
Of course I picked out all the pens and pads and free goodies that people give away. I love pens.
You can read more about my take on the conference here and here with pics.
How much time do you spend online every day? How much of it is for work versus pleasure?
I use the net as a resource for work but mostly, I spend a lot of timing reading up on new apps and devices, working on various sites and basically just keeping track of what's out there.
I'm on most social networking sites but I only use them to stay connected with family, friends and past co-workers. I do however, cycle to work when I do work (I work freelance) and make sure I spend time interacting with the world without a gadget.
Also, I have projects that involve virtual worlds so, there you go.
It's been a long year but it feels good to be connected with the world again - right at the palm of my hand.
The N95 was a long awaited gadget. A complete 'must have' when I first heard of it back in 2006.
Not that I would've paid close to $1K for it but the fact that it wouldn't be in the U.S. was a total bummer. Well, I'm here across the big pond now and wouldn't you know, after 6 days of mental anguish from a local mall mobile service provider, me and the N95 are getting acquainted.
It's been almost 6 days since I've had it and already I've downloaded enough apps to keep my busy. I think the best apps are the Windows Live for Mobile, YouTube, Pocketcaster and Shoku. I just hope this 'Web n Walk' unlimited data plan really IS unlimited or else I'll be donating a kidney ....
If anyone wants to know about any of the apps I'm using, what I think about it or what I think of the N95, just shoot me off an email. I'll be posting it on here anyway, sooner or later.
